Winter has arrived in Oregon! Whether you live in rainy Salem, or snowy La Grande, here are some things you can do to make sure you are driving safely with other road users:
- Plan ahead. Even in a car, commuting is going to take more time, so plan to leave a bit earlier so you aren’t speeding and driving unsafely for yourself and other people driving, walking, or rolling on the road.
- Remember that even when it is cold and wet, people are still walking and rolling to get to where they need to go, and may need more space to navigate obstructions in the road (leaves, snow, ice). Be sure to only pass them when you can give the safe fall distance.
- Be prepared to safely stop. People walking and biking in winter conditions are vulnerable to slipping and falling.
